What is the Vegan Land Trust?

We believe in creating a countryside alive with the sounds and sights of an abundant nature. We believe in sharing the benefits of that with everyone – do you? If so then the Vegan Land Trust is for you. The Vegan Land Trust is an emerging organisation working to end the killing of animals and the destruction of wildlife in the name of conservation. We are about providing safe places for all wildlife and people. We believe in non-lethal approaches to nature conservation. Believing that viable options are out there if look for them. The Vegan Land Trust aims to create and sustain land richer in wildlife – to provide great places for people to be close to nature, learn about our shared natural world and to play a part in compassionate conservation. Share that commitment and join with us.

Compassionate Conservation

Compassionate Conservation

minimal intervention

It's time to do things differently. Compassionate conservation is a progressive, kind, intelligent approach to caring for nature.

Respecting the lives of wild animals, as individuals and as complex populations, and starting from a baseline of non-violence, we can make space for natural processes and create sanctuaries for nature. Essentially we need to free up more land for nature, and implement new ways of looking after our countryside so that wildlife can thrive.

Putting Nature First

Natural processes - naturally

We need nature – for our physical, mental and emotional well-being. We also need a thriving and resilient natural world with healthy soils for food production, and clean environments for water cycling and for keeping the air we breathe fresh.

We know that we share our countryside and this beautiful planet with other animals, and they have needs as well. They need space so they can enjoy their natural behaviours – looking for food, a mate, having a family. They need space for their communal and social activities. They need to be free to live their lives as nature intended.

Land in Trust

Land in Trust

safeguarding nature

One of the ambitions of the Vegan Land Trust is to create safe places for wildlife and nature. We will achieve this in different ways – for example through the acquisition of land, and through working with other landowners and managers to care for land, putting nature first.

Land placed in the care of the Vegan Land Trust will provide a natural haven and a legacy for future generations. All land is important and offers different opportunities, from woods and hillsides to small fields and plots, all can make that extra space for nature we dream of creating, and we will assess all land offered on a site by site or need basis.

Education and Resources

Education and Resources

providing alternatives to conventional approaches

Loving and caring for nature, for wildlife, for others is, part of what makes us human. It is one the great things about people. We will work with partners and communities to care for land, putting nature first.

The Vegan Land Trust will provide support for compassionate conservation, through information, guidance on good practice and through the development of case studies.
